Cars And Trucks
California Lemon
Law for Cars & Trucks
California’s lemon law is intended to protect consumers who purchase a defective car or truck. Under California lemon law, a defective vehicle can qualify for a repurchase or replacement if the manufacturer cannot repair the vehicle after multiple attempts. If a vehicle has spent a long period of time getting repaired, or was brought into a dealership multiple times for the same repeat issue, it may be a lemon!
For a car or truck to qualify for lemon law, it must be bought new or certified pre-owned and all defects must be repaired under the manufacturer’s warranty. At Lemon Buddy, we assist consumers with claims against all car and truck manufacturers, and with all types of vehicles. If your vehicle has an engine, and it meets the requirements for lemon law, we can probably help you!
Who Qualifies
for
a Lemon Law?

Cars or trucks purchased new or certified pre-owned

The vehicle must be bought in California

The vehicle must be bought for personal use or used for business, if the business has no more than 5 vehicles registered to it.

The vehicle has issues covered by the manufacturer's warranty

The vehicle spent many days at the dealership, or was brought into the dealership on multiple occasions for the same issues.
for small business use, you may still be protected under the law.
Which Vehicles
Are Covered?
These vehicles qualify:
- New cars and trucks
- Vehicles still under warranty
- Certified pre-owned cars (with warranty)
When It
Becomes a Lemon
A vehicle may be considered a lemon if the manufacturer has tried to fix the same problem multiple times but failed. If the issue is serious and affects safety, even two repair attempts may be enough. For less serious problems, four or more repair attempts may qualify. Also, if your vehicle has been in the repair shop for more than 30 days in total, it may be considered a lemon.
What You Can Get
If your car or truck qualifies as a lemon, you may be able to receive a replacement vehicle or get your money back. This can include the cost of the vehicle and other related expenses. The goal of the law is to make sure you are not stuck with a defective vehicle.
